Taking the First Steps to Graduation

The days are flying by faster than some of us may be ready for. This past Fri., March 9, 2012, the senior class was invited to attend Graduates Day in the HUB Courtroom. It was a surreal moment walking in with the future spread out right in front of you. Lining the Courtroom were stations where seniors were able to gather all the information needed to make sure they were ready for these next two months and the years to come.

The senior class table allowed you to meet class officers, get senior activities information, and purchase t-shirts. The yearbook table provided students to sign up for a free yearbook that will be mailed out during the fall semester. For those that haven’t already signed up, the Plymouth State University’s Alumni Association has both a Facebook page and a Linkedin account.

Linkedin is a website that provides a professional network which many PSU Alumni are associated with. Through this website, many future connections can be established forming a network of possibilities and endless resources. The website is both free and easy to use. When signing up, the host stores your email and sends quarterly emails with suggestions of possible persons that may be helpful in your efforts to create a career to be proud of.

For those that are looking to obtain a lasting piece of memorabilia, Balfour provides the service of delivering custom made rings to symbolize your times at PSU. With choices of many stones, inscriptions, and emblems, you can create the perfect ring. Though a bit pricey, the nostalgia felt when seeing the final product is worth every penny.

Along with all the memorabilia, students were able to pick up their cap and gowns along with inclement weather tickets. These are extremely important to keep track of and cannot be replaced. These tickets are only needed for the indoor service that will take place if necessary. Tickets will not be needed if the commencement takes place outside.

Financial Aid and Loan Office services were available for students that wished to partake in counseling for any number of reasons. Though Graduates Day has come to a close, these services can still be accessed by going to the Registrars Office and simply asking any question that you may have.

If you plan on furthering your education, the College of Graduate Studies can be visited to learn about the master’s, post-master’s and non-degree program options available through Plymouth State University.  You’ll have the opportunity to speak with an advisor to see how you can continue your education at PSU.

If you could not attend this event, caps, gowns, tassels and graduate student hoods will be available in the PSU Bookstore from March 19-May 11. Regalia will also be distributed April 5 in Concord. The Global Education Office at Career Services also provide career services to you as a current student and alumni year round. Just drop by the office in the Bagley House, no appointment necessary, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
