The Office of Environmental Sustainability is making a difference on campus. If you have an interest in sustainable living and what you can personally do in order to reduce your own carbon footprint, then OES has the answers for you. By partaking in some of the many events and learning about the opportunities OES has to offer on campus, you can become a more environmental conscious student.
Becoming a member of the OES team at PSU is a great way to gain experience with a campus organization and learn new skills. The OES uses best environmental practices, and passes that knowledge along to fellow students and other members of the local community.
If you’re not aware, PSU has been a part of a nation wide recycling competition called Recycle Mania. PSU has not only been making a strong effort, but we are ranking high against hundreds of schools across the United States. Just last week PSU ranked #5 in “Grand Champion” category (% of total waste that is recycled), #35 in “Per Capita” (amount or recycling per FTE student), and #40 in waste minimization (weight of recycling + weight of trash per FTE student). This is great news; so let’s keep up the good work.
Watch out, you might get caught “green handed”. If any OES member sees a PSU student making an effort towards sustainability by using a reusable water bottle or coffee mug we will give you a token worth a free coffee on campus. Also, in honor of Recycle Mania, come play a game or answer some trivia questions at one of our tabling events in the HUB, and you may have a chance to win some cool RecycleMania merchandise, or a reusable water bottle or coffee mug.
Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoon, OES has a table conveniently located in the HUB right next to the Union Grill. Stop by to learn how you can make a difference! From promoting fair trade products to offering a ‘Green Guide’ providing more information on things such as natural home cleaning products, OES is working to make PSU a more sustainable campus with your involvement and interest.
Panthers, congratulations on last weeks recycling efforts, and keep up the good work! If you would like to learn more about Recycle Mania, weekly results, or any of our upcoming events, check us out on Facebook, or look for OES on our PSU website. With the collective help of students and our campus community, PSU can continue to put our best foot forward towards sustainable practices and a more sustainable future.
