What if students got to pick the professors for each one of their classes? It would make school a lot more fun, and inspiring. Imagine going to a class taught by Albert Einstein, Abraham Lincoln, or even Steve Jobs for a day.
“Hunter S. Thompson,” said Nick Einstman, senior communication major and general manager of WPCR. “I would be very interested in seeing how he conducts himself in a classroom setting.”
Not all teachers who students would want to learn from are based in reality. “I would want Superman to teach a class on overcoming weakness,” said KellyJo Boland, a sophomore theatre tech major.
“I feel like having something physical happen to you can lead to an emotional pain,” said Boland. “Superman has to overcome his weakness against kryptonite, and still has to deal with facing off against villains, all while keeping his composure, he would be an excellent teacher for that kind of class.”
“If I were to take a class, it would be, “How to Live Life Like a Boss” taught by Tom Brady,” said Mark Ruiz, a junior computer science major. “Brady is amazing because of all his success and he never lets anybody tear him down,” said Ruiz. “No matter what at the end of the day Brady just does Brady, and that’s pretty cool to see.”
“This one goes all the way back to my childhood...Reese Witherspoon,” said Anna Brown, a senior tourism management and policy major. “ I will always remember her from movies I watched as a child. She would be a great teacher for a class on how to succeed,” said Brown. “She always shocked people in her roles by never completely showing off what she was capable of. But eventually when she did it was simply magical, and that’s how to succeed.”
“If I had to pick someone to teach a class it would have to be Leonardo DiCaprio,” said Tina D’Agostino, a first year music education major. “I would just want to be in that class to see him without a shirt. He’s like wine he gets better with age plus it would give me a lot of inspiration to work with.”
Heather Dubois, junior education major and Mary Lyon CA, said, “If I were to have anyone teach anything, it would have to be Derek Sanders from the band Mayday Parade to teach a music class,” said Dubois. “I’ve met him in person and he is a very real person, not all hyped up on fame, just genuine, and such a nice guy. I feel like a lot of people would learn a lot just by spending time with him, and a classroom would only reinforce that.”
When looking at one’s inspirations and role models, it’s easy to imagine how great of a teacher that person would be. From Superman to Tom Brady, each student has an idol and what better way to see them in action than in a classroom.
