With finals right around the corner, and classes coming to an end it can be a stressful time for college students. However, it is important that students take care of themselves, and try to remain stress free.
It is important when managing stress to remain healthy. Be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day, and get a good night sleep. Students should consider reducing their alcohol content, and maintain healthy eating habits.
It is important that students find a healthy distraction that can take their mind off the work they have to do during finals week. This could be reading a book, free writing, or exercise.
Brandon Pierre, a senior marketing major said, “Go to the gym” to help manage your stress. Exercising is another great outlet to get rid of stress; going for a run can help to relieve any tension.
Bob Hlasny the Director of the Counseling and Human Relations Center suggested, “engaging in music, art, nature, or other activities or habits, that bring enjoyment, contentment and a healthy distraction from the stressful demands of finals week.
It is important to manage the time well. Plan out the week and find time to do all of the assignments. Hlasny said, “consciously prioritizing projects and managing your time wisely,” will help manage stress.
The most important thing students need during these stressful weeks is a good support system that will help them out with preparing for finals. Studying with friends, and talking to family can be a huge help. Students should ask for help if they need it, whether that is from the Counseling Center, the PASS office, or Campus Ministry.
PSU’s Counseling and Human Relations Center hours are Monday and Tuesday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday-Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Meditation and Stress Management Group offered by Dr. Gina Kelly that meets on Mondays from 12:00-12:55 will be offered to students during finals week.
The HUB is also offering a Stress Relief Night in the Hage Room on Friday, December 11th.
