On Wednesday, Feb. 3 the Student Support Foundation, SSF, unveiled the new location of the food pantry. Now moved across campus, it is located behind Geneva Smith hall across from Hyde Hall.
Jim Hundrieser, a big supporter of the SSF, was there to give a speech alongside current foundation members, and cut the ceremonial red ribbon in celebration of the new space.
"I've been here since sophomore year so this is my 6th semester in the Student Support Foundation,” said Denisha Odell, a senior social work major. “Our main goal is to help students with financial and emergency situations, it's for kids who don't have or can't afford meal plans to come and have a meal, all the food is donated to us through other students, and members of the Plymouth community.”
Through lots of participation from supporters of the university, and members in the town, all the shelves were filled to capacity, offering many different options of food to students. SSF advisors overviewed the whole event, and wrapped up with speeches presented to all who attended.
"The students stepped forward and asked me to become an advisor for the organization,” said Sam Wisel alumni '12. “I was a member of the SSF starting as a first year when I was in school here. Aside from my job at Plymouth, SSF is a fantastic way for me to be connected to the students. I've always been passionate about SSF, and I love what this group has been doing for others in this community!"
The SSF is open to all students in need of meals, and emergency help. Contact the SSF advisor, Sam Wisel at sdwisel@plymouth.edu for more information.
