The passing of Spring Break gives way to the yearning of summer, and on PSU’s campus there are plenty of creative events to keep students entertained before that time.
PAW organizes events for students every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, including monthly Paint Nights. Beach themed Paint Night is tonight, March 25, at 8 p.m. in the Center Lodge, but there will be others in the future.
Past Paint Nights have involved making creative paintings for dorm rooms, painting a haunting silhouette of a tree for Halloween, and even crafting a homemade holiday gift for someone special.
Keeping with popular themes, the current beach themed Paint Night will allow students to trade in the canvases and paint on driftwood to make signs that often range in price on the popular website Etsy for $50-$100.
Emma Partridge may be the president of PACE on campus, but she is just as excited about PAW’s beach themed paint night. “I love these events, and I'm super excited for this one since we will be painting driftwood. I love the beach, so it's a perfect theme,” she said.
Paint Nights allow students to express their creativity through painting, which aides in stress relief, and it’s a fun way to start off the weekend. Sophomore, Meredith Ryan is a frequent attender of Paint Night, and enjoys its stress free environment.
“They are super fun. You come about five minutes early, and take a seat where a canvas is. The instructor is really down to earth and slow paced. The explanations are to the point, and there is room to express your creatively,” said Ryan.
As the supervisor of the PAW program, Edythe Levin provides a well-rounded collection of events for the students at PSU.
“Paint Nights are an excellent addition to our roster,” she said. “It's exciting to offer an opportunity to students for such an affordable price.”
“I am also looking forward to the upcoming 90s Weekend on March 31-April 2, which will consist of a Name That Tune competition, trip to FunSpot, and a Boston Based 90s Cover Band named Killer Tofu,” said Levin.
Students can sign up for Paint Night at the Student Activities Office for $5.
