It’s that time of year again. The days are longer, the sun is shining, and finals are the last thing anyone wants to think about. Luckily, Spring Fling is coming up, and the events will certainly give students something to look forward to.
This year’s Spring Fling events will begin on Thursday, April 28th at 8 p.m., with a mechanical bull in the HUB.
From 9 p.m. to 12 a.m., there will be the famous Battle of the Bands. This show is free and open to anyone. It will be held in the HUB Courtroom, where five bands will perform. Almost Classy will close the show. Audience members can use their phones to vote for the winner.
On Friday April 29, a dance party measures the amount recycled per person on campus, and we saw a decrease from 2016 of about 3 pounds per person. Waste Minimization is an important measure for sustainability, as it measures the total amount of waste produced by a campus. In 2013 PSU produced 35 pounds of waste per person, which dropped 1.54 pounds per person in 2016. While the continued reduction is waste is encouraging, we need to improve our recycling rate. on the Mary Lyon lawn begins at 9 p.m. and lasts until 1 a.m. This dance party, hosted by WILD ON, is jungle themed, so it will be ferociously lit. Be prepared for some crazy surprises. For those who are 21+ don’t forget your IDs, because there will be a beer garden on site. Grab all the animal print clothing you can find and come down for a fierce time.
The annual Spring Fling Concert is Saturday April 30 at 7 p.m. in the ALLWell North Building. The winner of Battle of the Bands will open, followed by the introductory act PVRIS, who is currently beginning their U.S. headlining tour.
The main act this year is New Politics, who are known for their recent hit single “Harlem”. Tickets are on sale at $9.99 for students and $25 for guests (service fee not included). Each student is entitled to one guest whom they will be held responsible for. A valid PSU ID is required for all attending students. A valid government issued ID is required for all guests. Guests must be 18 or older.
To save time and enjoy the concert without interruption, be aware of the regulations. There will be no bags, backpacks, or purses allowed inside. Also prohibited from the event are beverages, containers and cameras. Spring Fling reserves the right to refuse entry or to remove anyone deemed to be under the influence or a danger to themselves or others, without refund. So there you have it. Take a load off, stay safe but above all, relax and have a wonderful Spring Fling.
