Intramurals: Relax, and Have Fun

As the fall sports are in full swing, it’s great to see students on campus getting involved in athletics. Whether it’s attending a Friday afternoon soccer game, or playing under the lights for your intramural softball game, it’s good to get involved. Aside from joining a student org, getting involved with an intramural sport is a great way to meet new people. Just don’t take it too seriously.

The last thing any recreation official wants to hear is a student mouthing off about a call. It’s the last thing any official wants to hear, honestly. I was in the dining hall last week, and I heard a couple intramural athletes ridiculing one of the recreation workers about a call that he made in their flag football game. Is it that big of a deal? If it is, I haven’t been ‘intramuraling’ the right way for the past three years.

The point of intramurals here at Plymouth is to get everyone involved in sports, and it’s always been a great program. I’ve yet to go to a game where there aren’t recreation workers there, yet there are teams that don’t show up week after week. And I’ll admit, I’ve disagreed with a call from time to time. Is the Little East Conference title on the line, though? Advertising Manager Do you have someone recruiting you that night? If your answer is no, you need to relax.

I am extremely impressed with the number of students that have signed up to participate this year, and the best way to keep people interested is to relax and enjoy the games. No need to freak out over a call, or carry it into the next day. And remember, it’s never too late to sign up. Go get involved!
