The Plymouth State women' tennis team crushed the University of Southern Maine, 8-1, at the Gorham High School Courts. Sophomore Megan Wallace (Moultonborough, N.H.) and Kelley Corson (Exeter N.H/ St. Thomas Aquinas) won the number three match doubles, 8-3. The duo also won their two and three singles matches in straight sets.
Freshman Alex Dunn (Jaffery, N.H.) and sophomore Megan Wheeler (Manchester, N.H.) followed their fellow teammates example winning two doubles 8-3. They two also won their number five and six single matches.
Plymouth State also dominated the singles wins. Sophomore Irene Ireme (Concord, N.H) and Senior Rachel Gustafson (Belchertown, Mass) contributed to this victory. Southern Maine's lone point came from a tiebreaker in doubles against Ireme and Gustafson. The Plymouth State women's tennis team is set to play Saturday, September 24, at the University of Massachusetts Boston.
Plymouth state's men’s cross country made it's name known at the 44th annual University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Invitational. Out of the 242 runners, sophomore Sam Brunnette (Newport, VT) and Warren Bartlett (Loudon, N.H.) posted in the top 15 finishes.
Brunnette finished fifth overall with a time of 25 minutes nine seconds. Bartlett placed 15th in the 8,000 meter race with a time of 25 minutes 38 seconds. The two helped the Panthers place 16th out of 33 schools, with an impressive total team score of 445. The Panthers next race is to take place on October 1st, at the Keene invitational at Keene State.
The women's x-c team finished 20th at UMD, with Dayshia Randall (Troy, NY) paving the way. She set a school record, finishing the 5,000 meter race at 19:42. The team will travel with to Keene next Saturday as well.
