You may be wondering what the Psychology department does for fun here at Plymouth State University. The evening of Wednesday Octb. 19 a few of the faculty decided to startup an out of class activity to encourage students to become more involved in their major.
The event was causal and drew a decent crowd; there were about six groups of three to four students who engaged in various trivia questions while eating free pizza. That’s right, free pizza.
The questions during trivia ranged from psychology class facts, current psychology news, to fun facts about the professors. By the way, anyone who knows Dr. Kilb, she originally wanted to work on roller-coaster designs. The meeting provided a place for students who are new to the psychology department and students who have been involved in the major to interact. Connecting students with professors in a non-classroom context was also available during pizza eating and trivia.
Events like these are meant to bring people together, share ideas, and get to know the people who are interested in the similar things.
If the idea of trivia hasn’t intrigued you enough consider this, things are not always boring, like one might initially think about trivia. There were a few rowdy interruptions during the event, it seems that a furry friend had learned that when there is food and people, noise must be made. Other then those few barks, trivia sailed by fairly quickly with a team winning the grand prize of more food. But really everyone won more food, as there were plenty of boxes of pizza left for munching on.
All in all, if you are someone who enjoys food, is maybe undecided about your major, and is of interested in learning about reading minds, then there is good news. The Psychology department is going to have another one, so be on the lookout for posters in Hyde and the hub.
