SAVE All, one of Plymouth State’s new organizations, has begun to attract attention on campus. SAVE All, stands for Sexual Assault and Violence Education Alliance, and their goal is to raise awareness of sexual assault on college campuses, as well as how to prevent, how to not be a bystander, and how to handle it if it happens. It is a safe place for anyone to go get help and learn more about the subject.
One of the ways that they have to achieve their goal is that they have ‘Weeks of Action.’ From 11/14 to 11/18 there will be different activities each day around campus for any students to participate in. That will help get SAVE All’s message to the community. This Week of Action is during fall, because sexual assault and violence percentages are higher around this time of year.
On Monday there was a bake sale allowing Plymouth State to get fresh baked goods. During Tuesday there was ‘Teal Tuesday,’ and The Night of Conversation, which had guest speakers Mark Fischler, the Dean of First Year Experience, and Meagan Shedd who is an early childhood studies professor and department chair of women studies council. They focused on how these issues are handled on campus. Wednesday, a movie called The Hunting Ground was played, that focused on many people’s sexual assault experiences throughout the country. Thursday and Friday there was Craftsgiving, and Paint Night for fun.
Paige Schoppmann the president of SAVE All, said, “this stuff really isn’t a conversation, which is a huge problem right now. People often think it’s okay because it isn’t talked about. They don’t know the difference between consent and non-consent. So if we talk about it more that’s the first step to preventing such actions and off of the crazy statistics it’s on currently.”
SAVE All will be continuing to raise awareness around campus and will be updating their social media pages all year.
