On November 1st downtown Plymouth welcomed a new restaurant, Phat Fish. Phat Fish owner, James Basford, and his business partner, Paul Zereas, have been working together for over 10 years. James was the manager at different times for both of Paul’s restaurants, The Big Catch and The Ledge Water Steakhouse. With over 20 years in the restaurant business, James decided it was time to tackle his own restaurant with the help of Paul.

When you walk into Phat Fish you will notice a heavily unique ambiance that is unlike any other restaurant in the area. After a heavy renovation of the previous business, Melcher & Prescott Insurance, Phat Fish manages to capture the feel of an Oceanside restaurant, with bright green glow on the outside and smooth lighting throughout the restaurant. On the inside, it showcases surfboards hanging up on the wall, along with pictures of assorted locations and various types of fish. One interesting feature that people may notice when they sit down is the newly installed garage door, which will be opened up when the weather gets warmer to capture people walking along the street and be warmly invited into their laid-back atmosphere.

The main reason James and Paul chose Plymouth was because of what was offered here. They saw that many restaurants had similar characteristics and they strived to be different, and their menu is no exception. While inspired by the roots of The Big Catch, Phat Fish desired to flare up their menu, offering foods, ranging from Cajun Calamari, Salmon Tacos, and Cheddar Bacon Jalapeno Burgers, to Apple Chimichangas and Ice Cream Sundaes. All of which are reasonably priced for the quality of ingredients being offered. Aside from the variety of options on their food menu, Phat Fish also offers a fully shelved bar and daily drink and food specials.

Since the three months that Phat Fish has been open, it has been met with an overall positive reception among the Plymouth locals. James finds pleasure in serving masses of people and having them leave satisfied with the food that he prepared. James is a hands on owner working an average of six days a week, making sure the kitchen runs proficiently and that the food is up to his standards to be served for consumers. James notes the Shrimp and Mushroom Scampi, as well as the Salmon Tacos are major standouts on the menu, but encourages people to try whatever sounds the most appealing. Phat Fish offers dine-in, as well as takeout and is located at 57A Main Street. So, next time you’re looking for that “something different,” check out Phat Fish.
