The Plymouth State Men’s lacrosse team topped the Norwich Cadets 11-8 on Monday afternoon in a non-conference game at Norwich’s Sabine Field. The Panthers needed three straight goals in the fourth quarter to secure their victory after leading for much of the game.
PSU dominated the first half, as they were up 4-0 after one quarter and 7-1 at the half. The seven goals were scored by six different players, with senior Nicco Sorrentino (Chelmsford, Mass.) scoring twice for the Panthers. Junior Matt Shea (Arlington, MA.) scored the only Norwich goal in the first half at the 8:28 mark before the half.
Norwich came out of halftime and responded with a run of their own. The Cadets scored five unanswered goals in the period, including two unassisted goals from freshman Connor Bourque (Goffstown, N.H.), to bring the score to 7-6 going into the fourth quarter. The Cadets outshot the Panthers 10-2 in the quarter.
Norwich’s sophomore Cody Moore (Canton, N.Y.) tied the game up with an unassisted goal, but the Panthers responded with a 3-0 run followed by the two teams swapping goals to reach the final score of 11-8.
Sorrentino led PSU with three goals on five shots, and junior Galen Antolino (Exeter, N.H.) scored a pair of goals. Senior Adam Haversat (Cape Elizabeth, ME) led PSU with seven ground balls. Senior goalie Jayson LaRiviere (Chelmsford, MA.) had nine saves for the Panthers, while Sophomore Ian Kriger (Burlington, MA) had seven saves for Norwich.
