The Karl Drerup Art Gallery is hosting its last exhibit from April 26 to May 12. The 2017 Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition is a display of each graduating student’s year-long BFA art project. Additionally, the Silver Center for the Arts will hold students’ graphic design work on display. Each impressive display shows each student’s unique talent. Featured work includes oil paintings, handmade pottery and graphic design mock-up companies.

Each student was given a display space in either the Karl Drerup Art Gallery or the Silver Center and was allowed to show their art as they saw fit. Each space was tastefully arranged to show the full potential of each piece. The student’s connection and passion behind their art is clearly evident.

Danielle Racamato, a senior graphic design major, combined her two passions of graphic design and hiking to create her fictional company, Pacific Crest Trekking Co. Racamato created pamphlets, stickers, posters and other media to promote her company.

After a year’s worth of work, she has mixed feelings about her final display. “It’s exciting because it’s the last show in the gallery, so it’s cool to be a part of that. But it’s a little nerve-wracking to show your stuff,” she said. “I don’t show my work a lot, but it’s exciting and it’s good to see it all come together. It’s been a long time coming.”

Students invests a significant amount of time into their projects over the school year, but the final pressure is high before the exhibit. “Its over 100 hours worth of work, but it came together nicely,” said senior graphic design major Samantha Poirier. “I got what I was going for.”

Even with all of the hard work, Poirier said the BFA program is well worth it. “I know that showing this off and knowing that I can show this to a future employer, being able to say that I put all of this on and worked on this yearlong project, hopefully they’ll be able to say, wow, she can really do something.”

The combination exhibitions of studio artists and graphic designers will be on display until May 12, with a student artist gallery talk on May 2. For more information, visit www. plymouth.edu/gallery.
