The men’s baseball team went 1-1 at the beginning of this week as they took on the pilgrims of New England College and the Bobcats of Bates College in two non-conference matchups.
The Panthers had eight runs on the board at the end of the fifth in- ning of Sunday’s home game, leading New England College by three runs with a score of 8-5. Plymouth went on to keep the Pilgrims from scor- ing for the next four innings, while racking up twelve more runs of their own. The Panthers went on to win the game with a score of 20-5. Senior Jarek Krajewski (Cranston, R.I.) had an excellent game for the Plymouth, hitting two homeruns and driving in four. Junior Ryan Boldwin (Manchester, N.H.) had a spectacular game as well, hitting one homerun and four RBI.
The Panthers then went on to play another home game on Monday where they took on the Bates College Bobcats. After the second inning, both teams had a run on the board. Plymouth scored two runs in the third inning, but still trailed as the Bobcats drove in four more. A fourth inning score by Bates Junior Jake Shapiro gave the Bobcats a three run lead until the sixth inning when Cam Ruziak (Sterling, Mass.) reached home on a failed pickoff attempt. James Salta (Laconia, N.H.) scored another run for Plymouth in the eighth inning, but Bates’ Jake Shapiro took the mound and held off the Panthers in the ninth for a final score of 6-5.
The loss to Bates puts Plymouth at a record of 13-14 overall. The panthers will be on the road Saturday for a Little East Conference matchup at 12:00 PM against UMass Boston.
