Cut-it-out! Dave Coulier, best known as Uncle Joey, is coming to Plymouth State University to perform his stand-up.

For those who aren’t familiar with Dave, here is the biography available on the Silver Centers site, “Dave is perhaps best known as “Joey” from the hit ABC television series, Full House, which aired for eight seasons (1987-1995, with 192 episodes produced) and can now be seen on Nick At Nite. Additionally, the show runs worldwide, syndicated in over 100 countries. Dave followed this success by hosting his second prime- time hit series, America’s Funniest People, which ran on ABC for four seasons. Dave is also co-starring in Fuller House, which will begin airing on Netflix in 2016.”

The show will take place on September 29th at 8pm in the Hanaway Theatre, inside the Silver Center. Comedian Kellen Erskine will open for thirty minutes, and Dave will come out around 8:30. His stand-up should be about an hour. Shuttles will be available from the Silver Center back to ALLWell and the Welcome Center after the show.

His “Full House” character is very familiar to college-aged kids. Many of us grew up watching those iconic reruns.

Students seem to be anxiously awaiting his comedy show. “Dude, it’s Uncle Joey,” Fran Grieco, PSU student said, “Who doesn’t want to go see him?” For fans of the show, it’s a no brainer. Students can only hope that Coulier will include some “Full House” references in his performance.

Tickets are free for PSU students. To get yours, navigate to the Silver Center website, found at https://www. plymouth.edu/silver-center/. From there, log in with your MyPlymouth information. For parents, faculty, staff, and alumni, tickets may be purchased for $10. The cost of the tickets will be subsidized.

The box office at Silver Center distributes tickets as well, but it’s recommended to get them online ahead of time. Brian Dye, Director of the Student Activities, said, “We’re hoping to get a full house, no pun intended.”

This event is co-sponsored by PACE and the Silver Center.

“I am super excited about having Dave Coulier come to campus. I grew up watching Full House, and being able to bring someone from my childhood is super exciting,” Austin Anderson, President of PACE said, “I think this will be an amazing event! We have had comedians in the past but none as well-known as him, and I think he will stick out in the history books for PACE.” Having Dave Coulier here is a big accomplishment. It’s exciting for the whole Plymouth community.

“I’m excited,” Izzy Stafford, PSU student said, “I was surprised that a famous person knew about Plymouth State.” Even though we’re a small school community, we know how to attract big names.

“Our Campus Annual Themes Chair is the position that works alongside the president and the advisor to help plan any annual event, such as Homecoming and Winter Carnival,” Austin said, “Laura, who holds that position, was crucial in the decision to bring Dave Coulier to campus. We brought a mentalist to campus for Spring Fling last year, but for a while we thought we would be bringing a comedian, so we had done a lot of research into comedians. A lot of that research means reaching out to different talent agencies like Para- digm or United Talent Agency, and we give them our budget and work to find someone within that budget. We collect the information, and then passed it along to Laura, who ranked the comedians, which helped make the decision.” This all took a great group effort. Brian coached PACE through the process. They first found Coulier through his agent, and it took off from there.

“I helped PACE contact people to get a comedian, and check on pricing,” Brian said, “We were looking for a headlining event. Attraction for families and alumni. We wanted to tend to the parents who are going to be visiting, so we looked for a comedian.” After looking into several comedians, Coulier had the most name recognition.

An email was also sent out to the student body back in May, so students could vote for who they wanted. They had three options: Coulier, Naseem Padrod, or Adam Conover. Conover is the host of his show “Adam Ruins Everything,” and he’s an original cast writer on College Humor. Padrod is known for her 5 years on “Saturday Night Live.” She’s also known as Aly from “New Girl,” Gigi from “Scream Queens,” and Dalia in Disney's upcoming live-action “Aladdin.” There were 72 votes for Coulier, 42 votes for Conover, and 30 votes for Padrod. The poll received 153 votes total.

Usually, the headlining artist has to approve the opening act. Kellen Erskine has been featured on shows such as “Conan” and “America’s Got Talent.” He was selected to be part of the 2018 New Faces showcase at comedy's most prestigious festival, "Just For Laughs” in Montreal.

Coulier and Erskine’s comedic styles tend to stay clean and family-friendly; we’re used to that with UncleJoey anyway. “The Homecoming and Family Celebration Weekend headlining entertainment should be suitable for all the target audiences,” Brian said. Have you been looking for a fun night out that you, your friends, and your whole family will enjoy? You got it, dude.

Be sure to take advantage of that free ticket, and come out on the 29th to see Coulier and Erskine for some laughs.
