Society for Scholarly Dialogue Presents: Jesse Parker
On Tuesday, October 9, PSU alumni Jesse Parker will be coming to the Frost Academic Commons to speak about their experience after graduation.
Starting at 6:30 with a social, Parker will go on to give their lecture at 7:00 and afterwards, there will be a question and answers section.
Parker is an Interdisciplinary Studies graduate (focusing in Media Studies and Graphic Design). After graduating, they began working for Zapier. Parker is going to travel for seven months to all the national parks in the country.
The event, which is called “Society for Scholarly Dialogue Presents: Jesse Parker” is also being presented by the Alumni Relations Office and the Communication & Media Studies Program.
Metasebia Woldemariam is the co-chair of the Society for Scholarly Dialogue and she said, “We try to engage the community at Plymouth. The students and the surrounding town to come to listen to lectures that are given in a nonacademic way. They’re nonacademic but they’re usually of interest to faculty.”
When asked why students should attend this specific event, Parker said “Students should attend this event to gain perspective on how to make the most out of their college experience, utilize resources to create opportunities for themselves, and prepare for a career post-graduation.”
Julia Thibaudeau is the current President of Lambda Pi Eta, a nationally recognized honor society. When asked how current PSU students would benefit, she said, “Students will receive the benefit of hearing a previous student from PSU having success after graduating recently and how far they have grown in a few years since graduating.”
This is the kind of event perfect for students concerned about what their futures may hold. By listening to Parker’s story, they may be able to develop a better idea of what they wish to do once their PSU career is over.
