Greek Row
At many colleges and universities, Greek life has a centralized area where fraternity and sorority students can house themselves around other Greek life students. Plymouth State University is about to establish our very own Greek Row.
Ashlyn Szabo, a student here at Plymouth State, and the president of Delta Zeta Sorority said, “Greek Row is a new project that Plymouth is putting together, they are putting together a housing row in the student apartments for all the Greek organizations. We will be able to live together, and build much better connections than we have now.”
Greek Row will be located in the eight apartments behind Center Lodge. There are some improvements that are going to be made. “They have some plans to turn the six apartments behind center lodge into three eight-person apartments,” said Szabo.
Paula-Lee Hobson, the vice president of PSU, gave an official statement saying, "Part of the President’s vision to improve our students’ residential life experience includes the revitalization of Greek life on campus. To support this renewal process, the Bradford Room in Center Lodge may be reserved in advance by any student and alumni organization to hold group meetings and social gatherings through the online events calendar, 25Live. The university is also exploring options for Greek organizations to live together on campus. As the exploration unfolds, we will hold student and campus input sessions to gather ideas as we did with Greek alumni over Homecoming and Family Celebration Weekend."
As of right now, there is not an official price for what Greek Row might cost, or what any future expansion may look like. The only confirmation is that the Bradford Room will be a new Greek meeting space for chapter meetings and other Greek events.
Some members of the PSU community have shown some concern about Greek Row, saying that it will be a party center on campus. Kyle Smith, the president of Sigma Pi Fraternity, had this to say, “Greek Row won’t be a party center due to its relative location close to the center of campus. Sigma Pi also has a strong stance against underage drinking, and encourages all students both in and outside of Greek life to practice legal and healthy drinking habits.”
With Greek life coming back to Plymouth State, things like Greek Row may become more common on campus. But only time will tell if this is a good thing for the entire campus or not.
