A Weekly Dose of Mindfulness with Meditation Mondays
Having passed the mid-term checkpoint of the semester already, many students may start to feel some burnout as they inch towards the end of the semester. Everybody is handling a full-plate and trying to keep their heads in the game through meticulous scheduling and long study sessions. If you feel you haven’t had time to catch a break in a while then maybe you should consider dropping by the HUB at noon on Mondays for a quick session of Mediation Mondays.
Karolyn Kinane, an English professor at PSU, has been holding Meditation Mondays every week for the past three years. Karolyn’s intent is to hold a space where students may find some moments of solace without any external disturbances. She said, “It’s so we can hold a space for people to tune in, in whatever way makes sense for them.”
If you are religiously affiliated, this could be a great place to partake in some midday prayer before lunch. If you aren’t religiously affiliated, that’s okay too. I fall on this side of the spectrum, and I personally use my ten minutes of repose to focus on breathing exercises, practicing to clear the mind, or simply checking in with myself to see how I am doing all around. A lot of young people aren’t versed in making a routine, yet these simple practices can be infinitely supportive in our day-to-day lives to ensure that we aren’t too stressed or unhinged.
If sitting in place doesn’t suit you then feel free to stand and do some stretches or even yoga. This is a place you can utilize in any way, shape, or form. Meditation Mondays are a nice break from the outside world to increase focus and mindfulness. If you’re looking for a little introspection but can’t find the right time or place, drop by the hub for 10 minutes! Meditation Mondays are every week from 12:05-12:15 in HUB room 123.
