Swimming Dives into Success; Wrestling Trips Up

Both the swimming and diving team and the wrestling team opened up their 2018-2019 season this last weekend. Swimming and diving started out the weekend on Friday night, also opening Salute the Troops weekend. The team, and newcomer coach Anne Barbeau, walked away that night with their first win under their belt after beating Colby-Sawyer 155-117.
Freshman Ellie Wilson (Darnestown MD) came out big as she grabbed first place in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:33.23. She not only grabbed one, but two more first-place finishes in the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke. Cammie Turell (Bowie MD) followed behind with the win in the 100-yard freestyle and 50-yard breaststroke, finishing 1:00.64 and 30.51 respectively. Casey Allaire (Mattapoisett MA) took home two wins in diving, grabbed a score 230.5 in the one-meter dive and 230.65 in the 3-meter dive.
The team is back this Saturday as they travel to Western New England University.
The wrestling team didn’t have as much opening day luck as they fell short against New England College, 30-17. NEC was able to grab easy points right in the beginning due to Plymouth needing to forfeit in the 133 and 141-pound weight groups. Diego Santiago (Easton PA) put the Panthers on the board shortly after with a technical win in 125 pounds. Steve Abusherry (North Attleboro MA) also grabbed a win from an injury in his opponent in the 149-weight group. Billy Dunn (Sudbury MA) cut NEC’s lead to only 17-9 after winning his match in the 157-pound match, in a 4-3 decision. NEC came back, however, winning both 165 and 174 groups to extend their lead another seven points. Dylan da Silva (Bayville NJ) worked hard and busted out the win in the end from a technical fall in his 184-pound match. But NEC ran away with the overall in the heavyweight matches.
The boys hit the mat tomorrow, Saturday November 17, to compete in the Doug Parker Invitational at Springfield College. The matches are set to start at 10 a.m.
