Skiing Makes the Trip to Dartmouth, Wrestling Stumbles
The men’s and women’s ski teams competed in Dartmouth College’s carnival day at the Dartmouth skiway last Saturday. 13 teams traveled across New England to compete and the men’s team ended to take home 8th and the women’s team finished last.
For the men’s competition, Dartmouth once again defended their slope to win it overall with 270 points, compared to Plymouth’s 112. Hunter Watson (Ottawa Ontario) had the highest finish of the day with a placement of 20th and a time of 1:39:67. His freshman classmate, Trevor Maxwell (West Linn OR) raced for the first time and with his combined time of 1:40:27, it put him comfy at 25th. Cooper Yates (Richmond BC) had a solid first start with landed him in 13th but his second run caught him dropping him back to 27th. Rachel Smith (Stowe VT) was the lone wolf for the women’s team. She wasn’t able to complete both runs and finish with a spot, which gave Plymouth the zero for the weekend.
This Friday, both teams will go to Middlebury College for the Snow Bowl. This will be a two-day event but the postponed race for last Friday, at Dartmouth, will take place this Sunday, the 17th. Giving ski a three-day weekend of events.

The PSU Wrestling team has had a tough stretch recently as they have dropped their last 4 contests. They were swept in a quad that was hosted by Johnson and Wales and then most recently, they were defeated on the road at UMass Dartmouth.
Junior Steve Abusherry (North Attleboro, Mass.) won by decision in the 149 class. This was Plymouth’s only victory for the day.
While getting a win for myself is nice, it’s not what you want. You want to see your whole team put up points and come away with a victory together as a team. I as well always have improvements and learning points in individual victories” Abusherry said, “Everyone came to fight down to the last buzzer, and it was great to see. Everyone was fighting for each other, and it’s the type of mentality we need going forward. Unfortunately, we just lacked the finish to close out a lot of close matches, we have to wrestle to win, not survive.”
Abusherry and the Panthers now set their sights on the upcoming Northeast Regional Tournament.
“The next two weeks are about making sure we are conditioned and healthy for regionals. It’s about refining small details in technique and getting in the best shape possible. The regional tournament is a challenging test and it’s important to train to the occasion.”
