Indoor Track Prepares for LEC Championship
The men’s and women’s indoor track teams made the trip to Boston University last Friday for their last invitational before championships come. They competed in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational and went against several schools all through divisions one, two and three. This was all individual placement and no team scoring was kept.
On the women’s team, three athletes made new personal bests and school records. Emily Geyselaers (Cornwall Bridge CT) raced in the 200-meter dash and improved by 0.13 seconds. Claire Greineder (East Greenwich RI) crossed the finish line at 1:02:69 in the 400-meter which was almost a second better than her previous. Senior Nora Robichaud (Hampstead NH) competed with Greineder in the 400-meter and followed shortly behind with 1:03:81 which is now her new personal best. Hannah Wescott (St. Johnsbury VT) was three-hundredths of a meter from beating the school record in the 60-meter hurdles within 9.69 seconds. Eve Bagley (Holliston MA) and Jessica Ewing (Amherst NH) were also closing to make new records in the 800-meter run but came up short by tenths of seconds.
Over to the men’s team, senior duo Sam Brunnette (Newport Center VT) and Warren Bartlett (Loudon NH) both beat their previous set records yet once again. First with Brunnette, competing in the 3000-meter run, he would set the second-fastest time in the country. His time of 8:16:84 was almost four seconds faster than his previous time. Bartlett also set country records in the standard mile run and earned himself 12th in the nation. His new time, 4:11:07, was almost two seconds better than his last set record and was the third fastest in the race. Freshman Ben Platt (Manchester NH) set a new personal best as well in the 800-meter run; time of 2:04:22. Evan Dolecki (New Hartford CT) missed setting a new record by inches in the triple jump and ended with a distance 12.87 meters.
Both teams will host the Little East Championships this Saturday, February 16th at AllWell Center on North River Street. Meets are set to start at 11 a.m.
