Thai Smile Robbery
A robbery took place at Thai Smile Restaurant located on Main Street in Plymouth, NH on Jan. 7, 2014. Most Plymouth State students are familiar with Thai Smile, as many pass by it while walking along Main Street and have potentially eaten there before.
At approximately 12:15 p.m. on Tues., Jan. 7, the Plymouth Police Department responded to a developing robbery call. John Mozieka, age 32, from Manchester, NH was arrested on the scene.
In an attempt to grab the cash register from the counter and run out of the building, the Thai Smile employees were able to detain Mozieka until the police arrived. It was also discovered that Mozieka was under an active bench warrant out of Milford District Court, and in possession of a stolen car at the time.
Mozieka is being charged with misdemeanor, attempted theft and felony, and receiving stolen property. He refused bail. All criminal charges will be managed by the Plymouth Police Department.
In a brief interview with the owner of Thai Smile, Thanath Afavamonchai, said, "The tip jar and the computer were broken during the attempted robbery." A new security system has not yet been put in to prevent break-ins and robberies, but will be in the future.
The family-owned restaurant has been in business for six years. Afavamonchai, Thai Smile employee had nothing but positive things to say about the college students that come to eat at their establishment, "They are very nice people." .
Thai Smile is closed on Mondays, but Tuesday through Friday, is open for lunch from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., and for dinner from 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. On Saturday, the establishment is open from 11:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. and on Sundays, from 12:00 p.m. - to 9:00 p.m. The last seating is forty-five minutes before closing.
