Seasoned dancers and local “stars” will pair up on April 30 at 2 p.m. for an energetic dance competition to benefit Voices Against Violence. The competition takes place at The Flying Monkey.

Local stars include Frank Mcclain of Pemi-Valley Habitat for Humanity, local musicians Holly Furlone, David Lockwood and Jim Tyrrell, and many more.

During the event, seven couples will perform one dance each, and dancers on the PSU dance team will make guest appearances.

One of the dancers is PSU student Lauren LaBreck, who is paired with musician Jim Tyrell. “He is very musical and great at hearing rhythms,” said LaBreck. “He, however, has never danced before, so a lot of the movement I taught him he was very new to. But he picked it up fast and has been a great sport.”

LaBreck and Tyrrell will perform an upbeat swing dance to the song “In the Mood” by Glen Miller. It is a fun and silly dance with lifts, dips, and 1940’s style costumes.

Another couple is made up of Waterville Valley director of public safety and fire chief Chris Hodge, paired with dancer Noelle Ferris. They are currently in the lead for donations.

Each pair of dancers collects donations on the website. All proceeds go to Plymouth’s crisis agency, Voices Against Violence. The agency provides free and confidential services to people who are affected by domestic violence, harassment, stalking and bullying.
