Good to know: How to have a happenen' Halloween weekend
It's that magical time of year again where people get in touch with their creative side and dress up purely for fun, pig out on candy, and party like there's no tomorrow. What other holiday embraces individuality as much as Halloween? If you're worried about starting things off right, don't fret. I'm a planning freak and I have a few good ideas that will surely make your weekend one to remember.
Are you worried about a costume? Don't be. I never really do understand why people worry about it when there are an infinite number of possibilities available to you. But anyways, here are some cheap yet amazing ideas to get things started off right.
A NASCAR lover/Hunter – All you have to do here is go to Walmart. There are a plethora of clothing items readily available to you here to complete this costume. Go to the hunting section near the toys and tools and you will find beautifully hick items such as Bud Light hats, camouflage items from head to toe, and bright orange sweatshirts. Where does the NASCAR fit into this all? I don't know, but you'll look like you're ready to watch NASCAR after you're dressed up like this hunter.
A Bloody Ghost – This one's not hard. Get a big old white sheet and either some fake blood, or you can make it yourself with food dye, cornstarch and a few other ingredients. It's a pretty cool costume because you can say you're the ghost of basically anyone who has gotten brutally murdered. Lizzie Borden's mother or father? Sid Viscious? Elliot Smith? For the ladies, make it sexy by cutting the sheet up to whatever length suits your feeling of promiscuity for the holiday.
Your roommate – Ask permission first, but borrow all of your roommate's clothes. Even do your hair to look just like them. A "Hello my name is…" nametag might even be what you need to put it over the edge. This costume is free (just don't mess any of their stuff up or else you will need to replace it!) It'll be funny to be a walking impression of your friend and maybe even someone will mistake you for them. Just don't give the cops their name if you wind up getting into any trouble.
With these precious ideas, how can you go wrong? The last thing that you need to top it off are the party tunes. Here are some Halloween songs that will get you into a spooky mood.
- "Werewolves of London" by Warren Zevon
- "Monster Mash" by Bobby "Boris" Pickett and the Cryptkeepers
- "Thriller" by Michael Jackson
- "Magic" by Pilot
- "Black Magic Woman" by Santana
- "Ghost Town" by The Specials
Whatever you choose to do this Halloween, whether it be carving pumpkins, handing out teeth-rotting candy to tots, watching scary movies or hitting the town... make sure to be safe, and have fun! And if you find a pumpkin in the middle of the road, just leave it there. You never know what could be inside.
