Both PSU Women's and Men's Soccer Teams Down Southern Main and Get First Conference Win
Score Boxes:
Plymouth Men's 3 Southern Maine 1
Plymouth Women's 2 Southern Maine 0
The PSU men's soccer team got a solid victory on the road against Southern Maine last Saturday (10/8). The final score was 3-1 and Joakim Martinsson (Morlunda, Sweden), Jake Sjoberg (Linkoping, Sweden), and Dre Cabral (Tokyo, Japan) notched in the goals for the Panthers. This win gave the Panther's their first conference win of the season. Coach Wright was not only pleased by his team's performance but also how they handled the heat. "The guys played well in very hot conditions, on Southern Maine's new turf field." The Panthers look to keep momentum going as they have their homecoming game tomorrow versus Western Conn at noon. This team seems to have gained some swagger and potentially could go on a run. Like any good coach, Wright is pleased with the victory but always notices little things to work on "We had many chances from good build up play, but still struggled to convert given how many opportunities we created. That said, it was good to score three goals and get a first conference win."
The women's team got their first conference win of the season as well by defeating Southern Maine last Saturday. The lady Panthers won 2-0, and goalie Angelina LaBroad (Hampton, N.H.) had her fourth shutout of the season. The goal-scorers on the day were Laura Davis (Pelham, N.Y.) and Sammi Jo Saltalamacchia (Sandown, N.H.). The defense played superb as well, allowing only two shots from USM. The team improves to a 4-7 overall record and seems to be back in the thick of things as they were in the beginning of the season and will play Western Connecticut in Danbury tomorrow afternoon.
