Get into the groove with Grooveshark

What is the easiest way to listen to music? ITunes is a program used by many as a default for products like the iPod. Pandora is free but comes with a myriad of advertisements. Is there ever going to be justice? Alas, it has arrived. Grooveshark.com is one way to do it all.

First of all, this website is free to use. The advertisements are only on the side of the screen, not played out loud during a song. With the lack of interruption, it's as if you're playing right off of your iTunes. After setting up a free login and registration, you are able to save songs that you like, make your own playlists and find friends on the site.

When a friend is located, instantly all of their playlists and "favorited" songs are available to you. Another great function of Grooveshark is the "radio" option. Start a playlist with any song you'd like, hit "radio," and watch the playlist stack up. This is the perfect way to find new artists, favorite them and start the process all over again.

Tom Jacobs, Operations Management major at the Charlton College of Business at UMass Dartmouth, is a big fan of the site. "I f---in love Grooveshark," he said. "Almost any song I can think of they have on there, and it allows me to have favorites and playlists easily. Even before it was on Facebook, you could create usernames and link up with other people you know," he added. Now that Grooveshark is becoming more popular by users of Facebook, finding friends with playlists is now easier than ever.

Jacobs concluded, "Better than imeem. Better than Pandora. Better than anything else on the web." Another positive is the unlimited amount of times you can play or change songs. Pandora.com gets finicky with this, and after a number of songs it blocks you from clicking forward. This isn't an issue on the "Shark". You can play one song fifty times if you desire.

Grooveshark is the best for social gatherings. All too often you have a million people requesting songs and no organized way to do it. With Grooveshark, everyone can get a request in and add the song into the playlist. That way they'll all play in a fair, organized way.

Another option provided by Grooveshark is the ability to restore old playlists. You could leave the room and turn off your computer, open Grooveshark hours later, and it can restore the playlist you were enjoying earlier. If you're serious about making Grooveshark the only place you play music, you can pay $3 a month to remove advertisements and get premium support. However, the free version has all of the components necessary for enjoying what the site has to offer.

Who owns music? Is it the artist whose name is linked to the song, the recording company, or the general public? This site proves that people truly do have the power. Grooveshark is the coolest place to play any song you can find.
