Student Spotlight: Ethan Batten
Whether students have seen him in class or around campus, Ethan Batten is one of the many young, talented students at Plymouth State University. Friends of Ethan know him as the fun, interesting, go-lucky individual that he is, but the one quality that he's shared with them is now being shared with the world: his love for music.
Ethan has been performing in this year's Open Mic Nights in the Fireplace Lounge, hosted by PACE, but has decided that it just might not be enough for him. He's decided to make his dream of performing on The Ellen Show come true by spreading his music through multiple social media websites.
Don't know Ethan? Ethan grew up in Concord, NH and is currently a senior Business Administration major. This basketball-playing, Captain Crunch-eating, Game of Thrones-watching, musician discovered his love for music when he was young, but found that it wasn't just something he loved. It was something that built him as an individual. "Music has taught me a lot about what it means to tell a story. Music carries love, hope, fear, comfort, heartache, and happiness through each every song," said Batten. "I would love to pursue that with my music. Everyone needs music in life and we need musicians to be the storytellers. We have all experienced the feelings above, what if we could make a difference and keep music alive?"
Currently, he is looking for a job and working on his music, all the meanwhile working toward one of his major goals. But why be on The Ellen Show? "Being on Ellen would be a once in a lifetime opportunity," said Batten. "If I was chosen to be on the show, I would have the opportunity to play my music for millions of people. I hope it would bring social awareness of my music and help me take it further into a possible career."
Check out Ethan's "Help Get Ethan Batten on Ellen!" Facebook page and click the "like" button. He has played and posted multiple covers from "Skinny Love" by Bon Iver, to a medley cover of "We Found Love" by Rihanna and "Royals" by Lorde. Sharing and adding friends to the page could help a fellow classmate at Plymouth State University open the door to a number of great opportunities.
