DegreeWorks is Working for Students
Students can breathe a little easier now when planning out their degrees and keeping track of their requirements thanks to DegreeWorks. DegreeWorks is a comprehensive academic advising, transfer articulation, and degree audit solution that helps students and their advisors successfully negotiate an institution's curriculum requirements. It is refereed to as an advising GPS (Graduation Positioning System).
The program was introduced in the fall of 2013. It offers a consistent source of degree requirements that allows advisors and students to plan future term courses providing departments with information needed to project course enrollment needs.
"Degree Works is currently available to first year students, sophomores and juniors only," said George Gilmore, University Registrar.
DegreeWorks allows advisors and students to create detailed educational plans to guide every student to a more successful outcome. "I feel more organized now, and confident when I am picking out my classes now," said Sophomore Katlyn Hall.
The program has user-friendly GPA calculators to keep students on track, which eliminate tedious manual calculations. "It makes picking out my classes and staying on track with my major so much more easier than previous years," said senior Carrie Baruch.
The program gives every student a "degree audit," which is a summary of the student's degree requirements merged with the student's academic record, which will provide a real-time assessment of the student's progress towards graduation.
The Audit can be organized in blocks of specific requirements such as the General Education block, major requirements block, etc. "The Audit is the official list of all requirements for graduation," said Baruch.
By clicking the "Class History" link at the top of the page a chronological list of all courses you have completed and the grades you have earned will appear. "Students are less likely to take courses they don't need and more likely to stay on a direct path to graduation," said Gilmore.
Although your Audit will guide you in taking the correct classes, you will need to access myPlymouth to register for classes. Final grades will appear on your grade audit once they have been posted at the end of each semester.
If students have any comments, questions or concerns they can be emailed to the project team at psu-degreeworks@plymouth.edu
