Pre-Medical Professional Society Hosts Relay for Life Event
Attend Trivia Night at Biederman's Deli & Pub
Do you want to help in the battle for fighting against cancer, compete in fun trivia games and have some delicious food and drinks? If you answered "yes" to any of these of these questions, head on down to Biederman's Deli & Pub on Thurs., Mar. 6 from 6:30-8:30 p.m., where the Pre-Medical Professional Society will be hosting a trivia night to raise money for Relay for Life. Prizes will be available to teams that come in first, second and third place.
Relay for Life, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, is a nonprofit organization that funds Cancer research. A cancer walk will take place on the HUB Green from 5-11 p.m. on Fri., April 4. Walks typically last for a 24-hour period to symbolize that cancer never stops and neither should cancer research.
Volunteers are needed to help with the registration process on Thursday in order to coordinate money-handling and recording laps among other responsibilities. Students who are interested in helping out with can visit www.relayforlife.org/plymouthstateNH
and hit the "signup" button, which will direct them to a page where they can create their own team or join the "Committee!" team. By helping out on the committee, students registered under that team will be recognized for their time and efforts.
"I'm hoping the school gets really involved and brings it back next year. It has always been my life long dream to cure cancer and I feel like Relay for Life is the first step for this," said Senior RaeAnn Liccardi, President of the Pre-Medical Professional Society. "I just want people to come and see how amazing joining together is. It makes survivors and people combating this horrible disease feel really happy, especially when they notice they're not alone and that we're ready to finish the fight with them. The slogan this year is "Finish the fight", and I think it's perfect since we're getting closer and closer to finding the cure each day. It's as if we're in the final stretch to finding it!"
Registration to join a team is $10/person, which can be paid online or the day of the relay. Students who are interested in helping out the cause but not interested in racing have the option to donate on the same page if they are interested.
For more information, students can talk with RaeAnn Liccardi, who will be running an informational table on Thurs., Mar. 6 in front of the HUB bookstore from 11-2 p.m., or via email at rmlicciardi@plymouth.edu.
