ITS Has Your Back
The Information Technology Services located in the Lamson Learning Commons is back in action, and is ready to help out anyone with their technology needs.
Services can be provided through online chat sessions, remote desktop control, walk-ins are always welcome, and they can also be reached via phone.
The IT department has developed a new wifi system for everyone on campus, called PSU Wireless. The wireless network covers all areas on campus including all residence halls, the PE Center, Ice Arena, and the Alumni Green.
"The plan is to have the entire campus wireless, and we are working hard to sustain that goal. The use of smartphones and laptops allow easier access to important information the students can use at their leisure," said junior ITS Consultant, Ryan Quigley.
The PSU Student and PSU Employee wifi networks are officially shut down. Everyone will use PSU Wireless except for guests, who can still use PSU Secure Guest.
The IT department is staffed with some of the highest trained IT professionals on campus, and includes students with different types of majors including, IT, History, and Business.
"We are here to help you, and are getting paid to help people, and are waiting for you to come in here so we can help you," said sophomore IT Assistant, Robert Greenleaf.
Any questions regarding MyPlymouth or Moodle can also be answered at the IT help desk.
"Everyone working here is interested in computers, and we learn more and more as we help students and staff members," said Greenleaf.
The IT department provides services for residence halls if a student ever needs help with their computers, tablets, or phones.
"You call in and schedule an appointment, and we go out to wherever the student's room is and assist them with whatever they need help with," said freshman IT Assistant, Dillon Crowley.
Visiting the help desk is one of the easiest solutions whenever a student or a professor that is experiencing a technical issue.
"Sometimes it's an easy solution that people get frustrated with, or it is a deeper problem that we can take care of," said Crowley.
If the problem cannot be fixed at the IT help desk students are referred to Management Information Systems, who deal with wireless and more advanced technical jobs. If a piece of technology is physically damaged, students should always visit the Help Desk first, then they will be directed to the repair center located in Highland Hall across the hall from Citizens Bank.
"Everyone has a very friendly disposition and make the workplace become quite enjoyable over the past few years, I never have to dread going into work," said Quigley.
For further assistance the IT department can be reached on their website http://www.plymouth.edu/office/information-technology/, or call them maybe at (603) 535-2929.
