PAW Kick-Off Highlights Late-Night Possibilities
Returning students won't have to wait long for fun. On the first Friday of the new semester, Jan. 31, the Student Recreation Program will sponsor the PAW Kick-Off Event. Taking place in the HUB Courtroom and Fireplace Lounge from 9 p.m. - 11p.m., the PAW Kick-Off will give students a chance to get a taste of what the new semester has to offer.
The PAW Kick-Off will highlight lots of student clubs and organizations while giving students a preview of the PAW programming that will take place throughout the semester. "The Kick-Off event is really going to help push that," said Drew Guay, the Director of the Recreation Program. "This is really to let students know what PAW is all about. They can get a basic idea of the programs we have to offer and also get an idea of what clubs, organizations, and departments are available to them."
The PAW program was established last year to give students something to do on weekend nights. "Last year we had over 400 people come [to the Kick-Off] and it was a huge success," said Guay.
This year the Kick-Off event will host lots of activities and giveaways for students. "The Wellness Center will have massage chairs available, the Student Recreation Programs will have some basketball skill shooting contests, Student Activities will be working with PACE to have some inflatables brought in, and the Community Service Center will be doing a can drive," said Guay. The Kick-Off will also feature some of the events students can look forward to in the coming months: late night yoga classes, late night dining, cookie decorating, and pumpkin carving.
The main goal of the PAW program is to give students something to do Thursday through Saturday nights. "This isn't Boston. You can't just go to a Celtics' game or a Bruins' game or go to Faneuil Hall. There's a lot of great things about Plymouth, but it can be challenging for students, especially now in the dead of winter, to find things to do at night," said Guay.
"The Kick-Off Event just gives students something to be excited about when they come back," said Guay. The PAW program will hold events every weekend this semester, Thursday through Saturday night 9 p.m. - 11 p.m.
"Just coming out and having a good time is what it's all about," said Guay.
