Popular Plymouth Beers
Take a walk down Main Street. The numerous eating establishments will satisfy even the fussiest eaters. Choices include Mandarin, Chinese, Greek, subs, burritos, or your average American Pub food. Over 21 and want to wash down that fine fare with an ice-cold one? Boy, does Plymouth have some choices!
Looking for a local Pub that supports the local team with a great view of the big screen? The Panther Pub & Grille is the place, their motto, "Where Everyone Knows Their Game!" Located directly on Main Street, the establishment's shining polished wood floors and clean tables and bar make for a great atmosphere. Jackie, the bartender, will greet customers with a wonderful smile and excellent service.
Sporting eighteen different beers on tap, there is something for everyone. When asked on recommendations for beer, Jackie said, "Ship Yard Pumpkin Head is the best-selling seasonal brew right now, although we still sell a lot of Bud Light to the college crowd." Strapped for cash, the college crowd seems to gravitate towards the lower price instead of opting for the quality of a good brew.
A little up the road, The Lucky Dog Tavern & Grill is there to satisfy a varied crowd. Say hello to bartender, Justin. Come in out of the cold and shoot some pool, listen to DJ Mike B or Open Mic Night. Justin will find the right beer. Although there are only eleven beers on tap, the selection of bottled beer is huge. Justin suggests Langunita's Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale, "It's got a strong hop. It's a pale wheat ale for both IPA and wheat beer fans," said Justin.
"Rolling Rock is usually the most sold due to specials, but the best beer we have would have to be Pig's Ear Brown Ale from our local Woodstock Inn Brewery," said Justin.
The Lucky Dog is a popular PSU student designation, where many students and alumni gather. "I enjoy the friendly atmosphere, pool tables and good service. Being gluten intolerant, it's nice that Lucky Dog offers Angry Orchard Cider," said Sam H., an alum.
Right in the middle of Downtown, you will find a friendly place with some of the most amazing sandwiches around. Head down the alley next to Chase St. Market and find the door for Biederman's Deli & Pub. With twenty-one beers on tap, they top the rest for draft variety! After bellying it up to the bar, heads spin with the choices available. Zach Penn, bartender, sandwich-maker, and beer connoisseur, lived up to the title with his understanding of different brewing processes and light verse dark beers.
"Having a hard time choosing the right brew?," asked Penn. "Try a Beer Flight, six-six ounce beers for $8.00." Flight can include Big A, Vanilla Porter, Founder's Harvest, Woodstock Autumn, Goose Island 312 and Smutty Nose Scotch Ale. Not only a great variety, but also all are Craft Beers and most from local breweries.
Afternoon or evening, many PSU students catch up with old friends, make new ones, or just enjoy an ice-cold beer after a hard day of class and studying. Biederman's offers pints for $3, $4, $5, and $6 pints, leaving a variety for any budget. "You don't have to choose price over quality when Biederman's offers the "Beer Flight" for $8," said Gabby G., a PSU student.
Looking for something a little different? Burrito Me offers great food with a pairing of a seasonal Smutty Nose brew. Enjoy a cocktail at Hong Kong Garden Lounge or many other establishments in and around the Plymouth area. Main Street offers some great places to sit back relax and enjoy a great beer. Come on out and enjoy! Don't forget, Drink responsibly and always use a designated driver.
