Plymouth State University is hosting the annual Red Cross Blood Drive on Oct. 15-16 from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. both days in the Hage Room in the Hartmon Union Building. The Community Service Center sponsors two American Red Cross Blood Drives in mid-October and early April.

Those wanting to donate blood can sign-up online or can show up on the day of.  Sign-ups are usually in the Community Service Center two weeks prior to the Blood Drive.  Those without appointments are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis after donors with appointments have been taken.

"People should donate blood as often as they can because blood is always in high demand, all around the world. From our friends and family serving in the military, to traumatic car accidents, to newborn infants that need an emergency surgery-donated blood saves lives. It always makes me feel good to know that I'm helping someone in need and that each donation could be a life saved," said senior participant, Evan Delhay.

It is a very quick way to do something good for the community and others in need. Participants can receive awesome T-Shirts, food, deals, and coupons to local businesses and restaurants.

"Every three seconds, someone needs a blood transfusion, Giving blood is 100 percent safe. One pint of blood from one donor can save up to three lives," said senior PSU Volunteers President, James Dube.

"Giving blood is not for everyone. Some people can't stand to have their veins touched or the sight of a needle makes them squeamish. The best advice I can give is to eat a meal and drink plenty of water before donating. Don't go in with an empty stomach! The nurses there will take care of the rest and you'll be eating the snacks they have afterwards in no time," said Delhay.

"Its a great cause if you can find some time to swing by and donate!" said Dube.
