Once again the rap phenom Eminem has come out with a new album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2. For those of you who have been skeptical of Eminem for past albums, it's safe to say he is back no questions with a vengeance. This album is, as the title states, a sequel.  Not only for the first Marshall Mather's LP (MMLP), but for all of his albums. He continues Stan from the first MMLP with his new song Bad Guy with the point of view of Stan's little brother Matthew. His new song Survival, the title theme for Call of Duty Ghosts is in a way the new version of Till I Collapse from the Eminem Show album.  He continues the skit A Kiss with the new skit Parking Lot, but for those of you who looked forward to more funny Eminem skits, this album only features one, and it wasn't so much funny as it was dramatic. Then of course Eminem continues to rap about his usual topics like drug addiction, his mother, his ex wife Kim, fighting with his alter ego Slim Shady, and finally where he stands in the rap game. The views in this album have changed completely.  One pays tribute to his mother positively in the songHeadlights, which features the lead singer from FUN. He has learned to deal with the fact he's famous and has become proud of how popular his alter ego Slim Shady has become. This album also includes many throw back loops from different songs that Eminem has attempted to blend with his style of shock rap. Did it work? Sometimes the songs work, but Berzerk and So Far were both failed attempts in the eyes of many and are probably the worst songs of the albums. You wouldn't be able to tell though since Berzerk has sold 362,000 downloads within its first week and was number three on the Billboard Hot 100. In the end though, the album Berzerk is a collection of good songs sliced into little pieces and thrown underneath Eminem lyrics, the lyrics were fine but the never ending transitions from genre to genre were too much and made the album seem cluttered. The best songs would have to be Rap God and Headlights. Headlights because of its deep, rich story told in five minutes and the great collaboration with FUN's Nate Ruess. As for Rap God Eminem states that he is the god of rap and backs it up with every line and verse, rapping at a supersonic speed of 6.5 words per second, taking out any doubt of why he is at the top of the food chain. After buying this album's deluxe version I advise purchasing it, the added 5 songs are unique and worth a listen. In the end The Marshall Mather's LP 2 is a great album and deserves a rating of 9 out of 10 stars and will probably be one of the best albums of the year.
