Johnny Cupcakes
Johnny Earle is coming to campus. Some might know him better as Johnny Cupcakes. Still aren't sure? Well before any hungry college kids get too excited, he doesn't actually make cupcakes.
For those who don't know, Earle is the founder and CEO of the clothing company, Johnny Cupcakes. Starting primarily as a joke and selling some shirts out of the back of his beat up '89 Camry, he managed to turn his business around. Less than a decade later, was voted the #1 Young Entrepreneur by BusinessWeek, as well as finding himself a spot on Inc. Magazine's top 500 fastest growing independent businesses.
Being a young business mogul, he decided to spread his company from being a one-location shop in Boston, to expanding across the US and even Europe. Now having shops in Boston, Los Angeles, Martha's Vineyard, and London, Johnny Cupcakes has grown from being a local brand to having followers worldwide. Besides BusinessWeek and Inc. Magazine, Earle has also been featured on NPR, MTV, CNN, Wall Street Journal, FORBES and even more.
Earle is coming to PSU to give a free lecture for the students. After becoming successful off of his own "recipe," he thought it only made sense to share it with the world. Seeing as how he was only 19 when he started this brand, he knows that college students are stuck in that inevitable phase in our life where they are figuring out what the future holds, and how to plan to be successful at whatever they decide to do.
He wants to visit the campus so he can tell the story of his success, and try to help students take some of his tips away from it so they can in turn make their futures just as successful.
Earle started doing lectures shortly after he reached his level of success, and has been doing it every since. Around the world, he has been invited to speak at hundreds of top academic institutions, creative companies, and cutting-edge conferences: Apple, SCAD, NYU, MIT, AIGA, DECA, American University, University of Westminster, Babson College, National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, Momentum Worldwide, Vantan Japan, University of Chicago, UCLA, and INC's GrowCo.
His lecture is free of charge will be held on Wed., Feb. 26, in Boyd 144. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the lecture will begin at 6:00pm. Earle has announced there will a free "mystery" gift he will be giving out to all who attend the lecture, and he will also be setting up a pop-up shop with a few of his shirts for anyone deciding they cannot live without one after hearing his story. Along with the pop-up shop, he will be doing a Q+A to help answer all questions.
