First paper of the year. New office, and yet I’m writing it in my room... Probably because it’s so damn hot in every building but Langdon. Perks, I guess. PSU Sports News (according to me) *Women’s soccer is killing it so far this year. Nine goals in two games is just crazy. I know, it’s still early, but the potential to be a top LEC team this year is gigantic. With a blank against Bridgewater State, they’re looking to get back to their ways this week. Also, Ryan Joy announced to me (and everyone watching the women’s soccer live streams) that he will be marrying his beloved on the pitch this spring and if that isn’t dedication to your sport I really don’t know what is.
*Women’s volleyball are currently sitting 7-3 overall; their last loss coming against an unbeaten Saint Jo- eseph’s team out of Maine. It’s pretty great to see how well they’ve bounced back from last year, where they were 3-7 to open up the year. They open up Saturday’s tri-team meet with their first conference meet of the year against a 4-5 Western Connecticut at noon.
*Panther football recorded their first win in ten straight games last week at Mount Ida. If the crowd that was at the home opener shows up, I can’t see them losing this Saturday either.
Other Sports News
*This whole thing with the two high school football players going after the referee is just about as igno- rant as it gets. 1. I can only put myself so close to their shoes. I’ve never been called anything, nor do I have the background to be called anything deemed as racial in the aspect as these two teens have, so it’s hard for me to hit on the topic. 2. Mike Greeny said it the best way that I could think of (and if you haven’t seen the video yet, go do it) but it’s one thing to take a shot at an official if that’s what you chose to do. It’s another to put your shoulder into his mid-back and completely destroy him. 3. And here’s where I got confused. The assistant coach said that he told the kids to do it because of some bad calls through- out the game, but the kids say it was because of alleged racial remarks part toward them in the second half. Go figure.
*The Matt Harvey deal has had me hung up ever since his agent an- nounced that he would be pitching more than the set pitch limit he was given at the beginning of the year. I feel that he wants to win and all, and then I tell myself, ‘hey, Harvey’s on the Mets.’ And if I were on the Mets, I’d rest that arm. But then I think about how the Nationals sat Stras- berg and lost in the National League Championship and didn’t even make the playoffs the next year and I’m right back where I started.
*DeflateGate is stupid. Just in general. I don’t even want to watch football anymore... it’s tainted with cheaters and false dynasties and my favorite team is looked upon like A-Rod is and I just can’t handle the drama any more.
*Since the Red Sox are (and have been) out of the hunt, be prepared to see me wearing more and more Pirates apparel. I can’t stand to see St. Louis go back, I just can’t.
