Welcome back home everybody. Big congratulations to the 1,400 plus students accepted to the Panther family. With so many students on campus, I thought it’d be a good idea to give the new comers some essential party survival tips. By no means am I advocating underage partying, but if you’re going to do it, do it the smart way.
They say college friends are your best friends. Correction, water is your best friend. Water will save you more than you can imagine. After every alcoholic drink throw back some water and the difference you’ll feel in the morning is amazing. We’ve all seen the person who can barely stand up; it’s not a good look. Handle yourself and balance it out. You have to make sure you’re eating before you drink. Even if you eat a pop tart or a hot pocket, it’s something! Your great night can switch at the drop of a hat without eating.
Don’t let the party get the best of you. I’ve seen it happen to way too many people. The people who constantly party their first semester will not be coming back second semester, I can guarantee you. Plymouth can be the time of your life if you embrace the balance. Having balance is the key to success here, it really is.
House parties are going to happen, in fact some are probably happening right now. By no means does this mean that you and seven of your friends can show up for the good time. Standing outside of someone’s house with all of your friends is a big red flag. Always stay with your friends but know whose house you’re going to. Cops are looking for over packed, loud parties. It doesn’t make the hunt too hard if there’s a parade in front of the house. Also if you’re new friend is acting like a complete drunken nut case just walk away. Before you know it the cops will be examining the both of you, and it’s really not worth it.
Entering my freshmen year I had this idea that I had to get wasted all the time and party all night. Your tank is going to run out by the beginning of October if you don’t relax every now and then. Just because you’re in college doesn’t mean you throw away who you are. Keep your values in order and stay true to what you like. Don’t get me wrong, I love to have a good time with my friends, but my stupid actions in the past have made me look at partying in a new way. Drinks and partying are going to be all around you, but it’s how you chose to react that’s key. Have a good time with your friends, it’s college and you deserve it. But be smart and master the balance. Namaste.
