On Tuesday, Nov. 10th, Plymouth State University will be holding it' s annual Veterans Day Remembrance Service. The event is being held in recognition of our countries veterans and their sacrifice, and will be held at 12:15pm on the Veterans Commons outside of Hyde Hall.
The ceremony will feature speeches from faculty and staff. Dr. James Hundrieser, Katherine Tardif, and event coordinator Rocco Collura will be addressing the meaning of saying “thank you for your service”. The ceremony will also feature two performances from two students; Victoria Jollimore, who will be singing the National Anthem, and Benjamin Michon, who will be playing Taps on the trumpet.
“There are certain struggles that come with being in the military that people can’t understand unless they are in that situation.” Said Collura. “Veterans Day is to recognize those who sacrificed to serve our country. There is no one in the military that hasn’t sacrificed, whether it be something small like missing a birthday or an anniversary to a life changing event like the birth of their first child.”
While this will be Collura’s first time organizing an event like this, he is determined to make it a respectful and meaningful affair. Having had both of his grandfathers in the Army, friends all over the world in many different branches of the military, and being in the Army National Guard himself Collura feels a responsibility to give veterans the respect that they deserve. “That is the reason it is important to recognize our veterans.” Said Collura. “Because without them, America wouldn’t be the place it is and we might not have the freedoms to live the way that we want to.”
The Veterans Day Remembrance Service will take place on the Veteran Commons outside of Hyde Hall on the day before Veterans Day, Tuesday, Nov. 10.
