The 2015-2016 ski package has finally been revealed! Cannon Mountain was the most sought after resort this year and for different reasons. “Driving into Cannon is like driving into a time machine,” said sophomore Shea Beando. “It takes you back to the 80’s where mostly everyone skis and snowboarders are few and far between.”

Having recently purchased the neighboring peak, Mittersill, Cannon has a lot of terrain that often goes untouched and is a great place to go on a powder day.  This years ticket prices for PSU students are $5 dollars a day. Cannon has a reputation of having a completely different vibe from Waterville Valley or Loon but is a very popular resort nonetheless.

Loon Mountain Resort is up and running as the snow has been flying for some time now.  The mountain has a lot of new attractions to offer this year as the lodge was renovated over the summer. Within the past couple of years, more than 3 million dollars have been spent on the latest snow making guns giving Loon some of the best snow the area has to offer.

Sophomore Randy Garfield was excited to share about his favorite mountain: “Loon fully embodies the NH motto ‘Live free or die.’ Said Garfield, “My friends and I all love Loon and prefer it to any other mountain.  It has the best terrain parks and they always have free relish packets to alleviate hunger, which is another positive! Loon is like a mixture of Metallica and your cool older brother that smokes.”  Loon’s ticket prices are $85 dollars for adults over 19 and $75 dollars for teenagers.  It is the largest resort out of the three and has a lot to offer.

Waterville Valley, the home of last years ski package, has a totally different feel from Cannon and Loon.  The daily ticket prices are set at $37 for right now but as the season gets more underway and more of the mountain opens, the ticket prices will go up to $59.99.

Sophomore Riley Morris said, “Waterville is definitely more family oriented and the classic New Hampshire ski area,” said Morris,  “Waterville is the type of resort that you went to with your family growing up, where you wrestled with your snow suit for 30 minutes only to give up on the suit and sip hot chocolate instead.”  Waterville has a lot to offer, as there are opportunities for glade skiing along with every other kind of skiing.

No matter the mountain, PSU students are bound to enjoy these winter activities.
