Donald Trump, republican presidential candidate, is scheduled to hold a rally at Plymouth State University in the All Well North building Sunday, Feb. 7 at 1 pm.
According to John Clark, the manager of the All Well North building, Trump’s campaign reached out to the University on Jan. 22 in order to rent out the building for both the Feb. 6 and Feb. 7. Mary Hill, head of Conference Services at the University, confirmed that members of Trump’s campaign reached out and said that Trump’s campaign finalized the contract that confirmed the rally on Feb. 2.
Students, faculty and staff at Plymouth State University have mixed feelings about Trump, and the news he was coming was met with both skepticism and interest. “I don’t think we need his negativity,” said Silmegy Vega, a junior at Plymouth State University, “both here on campus and in the country.”
However, though many people said they would not go, a large group of students support him. When asked if he would go to support Trump, Patrick Donnelly said, “Absolutely. He’s telling people what they want to hear. I think he’s a successful businessman and that’s what we need for our president.” Jackie Goodrich, a senior music theater major, said, “A lot of people don’t like Trump, but I think its only fair to hear him out and see what they think, especially since they went to see Bernie. I’m not saying I agree with him, but I want to hear what he says and form my own opinion based on that instead of only listening to second hand stories.”
Even though opinions vary on Trump, many students said that if they had the opportunity to see him, they would.
The Trump rally is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 7 at 1 pm, and doors open at 11 am. The event is free for all attending. Anyone who would like to go needs to register online at trumpplymouth.eventbrite.com
