The Plymouth state panthers traveled to Westfield, Massachusetts this past Saturday in the Panthers most recent MASCAC matchup.
The panthers opened the nights scoring with a rebound effort from junior defenseman Erik Strom (Gothenburg, Sweden) with the initial shot and assist coming from fellow junior Dan Dupell (Collegville, Pa). Dupell would end the night with 3 points, tallying another helper as well as a goal in the second.
Plymouth once again found the net as the opening period came to a close. Mike Economos (Crystal Lake, Ill.) scored on the Panther power play, his first of two goals scored that night.
Plymouth quickly added to their two goal lead only 51 seconds into the second period with a goal scored by Ryan Callahan (Londonderry, NH), and the defense stood strong.
The Westfield State Owls finally managed to answer at 7 minutes and 51 seconds into the second when owls forward Aaron Clacy (Quincy, Ma.) managed to beat Gordon Ceasar (Oak Park, Ca) on the rebound.
The Panthers responded with two more goals of their own. Economos got his second power play goal of the night and Dupell scored widening the margin to 5-1.
This scoreline remained until Dalton Jay( Hamilton,Ont.) scored with only 6:45 to play.
In spite of the loss of two of Plymouth’s high scorers Saturday night, the team finally found its offensive groove.
The panthers will host Umass Dartmouth this Saturday.
