Feb 15 marked the official opening of the Outdoor Center, located in the All Well North Building. The center is home to an array of outdoor gear that is available for any Plymouth State student to rent. The gear available includes camping gear, skis, rock climbing gear, surf and paddle boards, and much more.
Dan Miceli, a junior and the Promotions Coordinator, said, “If you can think of it, we have it. We can fully outfit you for any adventure you want to have.” Unlimited rentals are available for two weeks at a time.
The Outdoor Center is also the home of the SOAR program, a student run organization that takes PSU students on outdoor excursions throughout the semester. The program coordinators are Christian Bisson and Jamie Hannon, both Adventure Education professors. For a small fee, any student can go on trips led by Adventure Education majors.
Trips include ice climbing, snowshoeing, kayaking, and many different hikes. Any student is welcome to go on these trips, but it is recommended to reserve a spot at least three days before the day of the trip in order for there to be an accurate head count.
Reservations for SOAR trips can be made by either going down to the Outdoor center or calling ahead at 603-535-2622. Upcoming events can be found at the SOAR Facebook page and at the Plymouth State website.
The outdoor center is open 12-4 and 6-8 Monday through Friday, and the phone number for the Center is 602-535-2622. It is recommended to call ahead in order to reserve gear.
