Festivus for the Rest of Us: WPCR’s 2nd Annual Festivus Show

February isn’t too late to get in the holiday spirit. Celebrate Festivus with WPCR radio on Friday, Feb. 19, when two bands, The Humble, and Crown Colony, rock out in the HUB’s Hage room during PSU’s second annual Festivus Show.

Festivus is a holiday created by the TV show Seinfeld. “It’s basically a holiday that was born out of frustration of preparation of other holidays,” said Nick Einstman, general manager of WPCR. This parody of a holiday is anti-commercialism. Celebrants decorate with an aluminum pole in lieu of an evergreen tree and eat meatloaf during their holiday meal.

Festivus is technically celebrated on Dec. 23, but WPCR will be celebrating in their own way: with music. The band The Humble will make its stop in Plymouth right after performing in Washington D.C., Boston, and New York City. “We had found The Humble through an Audiotree studio set they did and we just sent them an email,” said Einstman. “We never dreamt that they would reply.”

The other band playing is Crown Colony. “They both have a very similar sound to each other. I actually have a pretty hard time describing them,” said Einstman.

This will be the second time WPCR is running the event. “The first Festivus Show was a total success. A lot of different people showed up and enjoyed the music,” said Einstman.

The Festivus Show if free for all students with a student ID. It starts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19 in the HUB Hage room. The show is closed to non-students, staff, and alumni without prior OK.
