Homecoming week at Plymouth State University began on Sept..19. The annual event sponsored by PACE, or Programming Activities in a Campus Environment, happens every fall and spans the entire week, ending with the football game against UMass Dartmouth on Saturday.
Every day during the week had two events planned, one during the day in the HUB, and a second at night. On Monday Sept. 19, mystery prizes were given away. Plastic balls were hidden all over the HUB, as well as golden eggs. Each ball had a number on it, which determined the prize, and a golden egg gave the holder a PACE t-shirt. On Monday night, bingo was hosted in the HUB Hage Room, with over 100 people in attendance.
On Tuesday Sept. 20, students could get a free cactus in the fireplace lounge. Those who participated were not only given a plant, but were able to decorate the small planter as well. Bubble Soccer was hosted in the HUB courtroom that night.
On Wednesday Sept. 21, there was cupcake decorating. Vanilla and chocolate cupcakes were available to be frosted and sprinkled with rainbow sprinkles and crushed candy. On Wednesday night, there was a midnight hike in the woods behind Langdon Woods.
The highlight of the week is on Friday Sept. 23 and Saturday Sept. 24. On Friday, there will be iced coffee given away in mason jars, and dueling pianos in the HUB Hage room that night. On Saturday, PACE will be hosting the Harvest Festival before the football game. The festival will be open to students and their families. Different activities are planned, such as an inflatable obstacle course and photo tiles that allows people to take pictures and have it be put on a tile. The event will be catered by Sodexo.
PACE has sponsored Homecoming for years, and is one of two major events hosted by PACE during the school year. The other is Winter Carnival in February. Within PACE, homecoming and winter carnival is planned by the Vice President of Annual Themes Alexis Mayne and the President Calvin Meattey.
“Our goal is get the students involved, and to have fun.” Said Meattey. “Homecoming is a celebration of family, one that welcomes alumni back.”
Homecoming is not the only event that PACE sponsors. In October alone, PACE has at least four events planned. There is a trip to Salem MA on Oct. 22, an open mic in the HUB on Oct. 6 and two unnamed events in the works.
