Rock Music Column: New Music From August & September
Alternative rock band Foo Fighters released a new single on August 23, from their newest album, entitled Concrete and Gold. The single “The Sky is a Neighborhood” is the second single off the album, and brings the classic Foo Fighters’ rock sound, while still sounding modern and fresh.
The band keeps up with the changing alternative rock sound, while never straying too far from their hard rock roots, even 23 years after the conception of the band. Foo Fighters start their US tour to promote the album on October 7. Concrete and Gold is available now.
On September 7, The Used released a new song, “Over and Over Again,” along with announcing their seventh studio album, The Canyon. “Over and Over Again” is a pleasant mixture of the current alt-rock sound and their 2007-esque punk rock sound. The band begins their tour with Glassjaw on October 27. The Canyon will be available on the same day.
Linkin Park released a new video for their song “One More Light,” which came out this year. The video highlights some of Linkin Park’s shows from past years and footage on and off-stage of the band’s late lead singer, Chester Bennington, who died by suicide in July. The video serves as one of many tributes to the singer since his passing.
“‘One More Light’ was written with the intention of sending love to those who have lost someone. We now find ourselves on the receiving end,” Mike Shinoda, Linkin Park’s rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist, writes in the YouTube video description. Linkin Park, and other bands, will come together on October 27 in Hollywood, California to celebrate the life of Chester Bennington.
Fall Out Boy unveiled another single for their 2018 album, MANIA. The song, “Last of the Real Ones” is vastly different from the Fall Out Boy everyone knew in 2007. “Last of the Real Ones” reached over 2 million views in less than a week after the video was posted on YouTube. MANIA will be available January 18, 2018.
