KSC's The Equinox Receives National Recognition
The staff at The Clock would like to extend their congratulations to fellow USNH member Keene State, for receiving a national award this past weekend at the Associated Collegiate Press media convention in Dallas, Texas. The college’s newspaper, The Equinox, was nominated for the Pacemaker Award this summer, and received the prestigious recognition on October 28th.
For those who are unaware of the importance of the award, the ACP website quotes the Pacemaker as one of the highest in college press. “The Pacemaker is the association’s preeminent award and is often called the Pulitzer Prize of collegiate journalism. [Associated Collegiate Press] is honored to recognize the best of the best.”
In an ongoing cat-and-mouse, hide- and-seek debacle with their former college president, The Equinox was awarded for their perseverance of administrative cuts, budget slashing, and defending their right to the First Amendment. An administration fearing for their jobs, T he Equinox performed with a professional approach and allowed for the campus to have a true voice in the battle.
The Clock ran a story last spring about the ongoing issue on the KSC campus, and at the time, the main focus was faculty and staff members who were too afraid to speak out about the then-current administrative/financial situation. Today, with the First Amendment restored, the KSC campus is back in its comfort zone, and it is all because of the diligent reporting of its campus newspaper.
Again, The Clock’s immediate staff would like to send its sincerest congratulations to those who represent The Equinox. We hope that, in turn, we can report on our campus issues with the utmost professionalism.
