Plymouth State’s Indoor Track and Field team hosted the PSU Winter Classic this past Saturday at the Bank of New Hampshire Field House located at the ALLWell North Center.
The Men’s team placed 3rd out of 9 teams while the Women placed 4th out of 8 teams. Both teams set new program records during the tournament.
Starting with the Men’s, freshman Terrell Lewis (Nashua, N.H.) broke two school records on the day. His 8.76 finish in the 60m hurdles broke the previous mark of 8.78 which was held by current teammate Isaiah Bolden (Dover, N.H.). He then went on to record a 1.95 in the high jump which bested the previous record of 1.83. His performance in the high jump qualified him for the New England Championships. Freshman Joey Baylus (Loudon, N.H.) qualified for New Englands himself when he finished the 60m hurdles in 9 seconds flat. Junior Warren Bartlett (Loudon, N.H.) set the program record for the mile run with a time of 4:26.01 which was also good enough to qualify for New Englands.
The Women’s team placed 4th out of the 8 teams competing. Haley Dennis (Coventry, R.I.) ran the 3000m in a time of 11:26.51 which placed her at fifth and set a new program record. Jillian Edwards’ (Exeter, N.H.) throw of 11.40 meters in the weight throw set a new school record. Senior Rileigh Goulette finished with the top spot in the 1000m run. Her time of 3:18.75 was just enough to beat the second place finisher by .23 seconds.
Both teams have a nice break ahead of them, as they will be able to enjoy Christmas and New Years before they return on the 20th of January to host the Panther Invitational. The time has yet to be determined.
