Real Talk With E$
I've been in a pretty pissy mood all week, but within the past half an hour, my spirits have been lifted. Not sure if it's because I decided to listen to Billy Joel (thanks Maegen Manson), but it has made my foot start tapping to the beat. Sometimes, you have to make the best out of it, because life is not a picnic.
This week, I have to start off with how bad the NBA All-Star week was. Not only was the dunk contest a complete disaster, but the actual All-Star game itself featured next to no defense for about 95% of the contest. The players that were in the dunk contest had the potential to put on a heck of a show, as Paul George and Terrence Ross had previously been in the contest, while John Wall and Damian Lillard are two of the best guards currently in the NBA. Ben McLemore was rumored to be able to do a 720, but never had the ability to showcase his talents, as he was eliminated in the "Battle Round". The concept of having two teams for this event, that being the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference, is a bad idea, as "All-Star Saturday Night" is suppose to represent how good of a player you are individually. With that said, the NBA has to stop being "cute" with the new rules that they seem to incorporate every year, and go back to old formats that they had for the weekend.
In Other Irrelevant (Though I Find Interesting) Sports News:
-Don't get me wrong, the Olympics are an awesome sporting event that I would like to attend at some point of my life, but there are too many events that seem too similar to each other
-Good for Michael Sam for announcing that he is gay before the NFL Combine. It will be interesting to see what team decides to draft him, as it needs to be one that has an extremely strong core (such as the Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers or Denver Broncos).
-Senior Night for the Men's Hockey team is on 2/22 (Saturday), in which three players, Phil Arnone, Tyler Ingerson and Dave Walters, will be honored. All three are great players/people, and will be missed next season.
-Dave Ortiz has been a hell of a player for the Boston Red Sox, and is underappreciated by the franchise.
-The Boston Celtics are asking for WAY too much for Rajon Rondo.
-Jimmy Graham is going to be overpaid. Don't get me wrong, he is the best tight end in the game right now, but his toughness might be in question after how he finished off the 2013-2014 season.
-The whole Richie Incognito-Jonathan Martin story has turned into a ridiculous one, as well as a story that seems like it just won't go away.
-Jadeveon Clowney has a lot to lose at the NFL Combine.
Non-Sports Information of the Week
Rant of the Week- There have been a number of good ones that have been on my mind for this, but the one that takes the cake is how damn quick the PSU police officers are to give out tickets when lot maintenance is going on. I live right behind Pemi Hall, and how quick they are to get over to the lot is ridiculous. They are lined up to give tickets out 20 minutes before the actual lot maintenance is suppose to happen.
-Honorable Mentions go to the kids that bitch about it snowing. You are going to college in Central (almost Northern) New Hampshire. What the hell did you truly expect?
-The reason why I have the two business cards in my column this week is because both Inter-Lakes Properties and Plymouth Ski and Sports have treated me right since I have been back at school this semester. When you treat someone (especially me) correctly, I think you deserve to be rewarded, and free advertising is what I think they deserved.
-Good luck to the Women's Lacrosse team in both of their scrimmages this weekend.
-Shout-out to my main man Steve Swiatlowski, who has gone to just about every Men's Hockey game, and has been right there to heckle the hell out of every team.
-I think that about does it for me this week. Side note, I hope that I get one of the meteorology internships that I applied for. Needless to say, I'd be pretty damn happy.
-Real Talk with Eric- Just remember, when it is 90' and humid in the summer, you were the same person that was complaining about the cold weather!
'Till the next time I write this column, I'm outta here.
