:10 Seconds with Kate Nixon
The women's soccer team has put together quite a second half of the season, as they have won four of their past seven games (despite two losses by a goal). This team puts in 100% effort into every game (and play), and is led by Junior captain Kate Nixon (Wakefield, MA). The forward is one of the most aggressive players on the field, and has had quite a season after not being able to play last season because of a torn meniscus in her knee. Nixon is currently fifth on the team in goals, and has played in every game she has been able to play (so all of her first season as a Panther, and every game in the 2013 season). I got in contact with Nixon, and it appears that this team is pointed in the right direction.
1.How long have you been playing soccer for?
KN- I've been playing since I was about 5. I don't know if I would really call it "soccer" at that age, but it was still a lot of fun.
2.How does the soccer team look for the remainder of this year?
KN- We really are coming together as a team. We have worked SO hard this season and we are making great progress.
3.What is your most memorable moment in your soccer career?
KN- My most memorable moment in my soccer career is the last game I played with my sister, who is only a year older than me. She has always been my biggest supporter and although playing without her is different, she's still there every step of the way.
4. Do you have any superstitions on game-day?
KN- I don't have any major "superstitions" besides doing my hair the same way. As a team, we all usually send each other inspirational texts on game day and I always look forward to reading those.
5. What was your "Welcome to Soccer" moment in your career?
KN-My "Welcome to Soccer" moment was our first game of my collegiate career. We were playing Colby-Sawyer and Carol Messler crossed a beautiful ball right across the 18 and I headed it in the net to tie up the game.
6. If I were to look at you Ipod/ITunes/etc. what would be the five most played songs?
KN-Depends what kind of day it is! Blink 182 is always a go to, but on game days I usually walk around campus listening to our warm-up getting pumped up, probably looking like a weirdo.
7. How has the culture of this program changed since you came to Plymouth?
KN-Every year has been such a different experience for me, but these girls are my best friends. I couldn't ask for a better or more supportive group of girls.
8. What did it mean to you to be named captain of the team this year?
KN-It meant so much to me! I was out all last season with a torn meniscus, but being named captain showed I was still able to make an impact on the team just in a different way than I was use to.
9. This team has shown a lot of effort and grit, especially over the past few weeks. What/how has this team been able to stay together despite the tough start to the 2013 season?
KN-Win or lose we are an awesome team. We have so much fun together and I really think that's how we have been able to remain such a tight knit and strong team.
10. What will lead this team to success for the remainder of this year, as well as the 2014 campaign?
KN-Our continual hard work and dedication day in and day out is going to take us so far. We are finally coming together right when it matters and there is such a thrill of being the underdog and winning when no one expects us to. We play for each other and we will continue to do that until the end!
